Bursaries for B.C. Educators – Professional Development in French

You are an educator:

• With a B.C. teaching certificate or Letter of Permission, or a certified ECE/ECEA,
• Completing a training program or attending an eligible conference in French language and/or French teaching methods offered in Canada
  • Eligible conferences are: ACELF, ACPI, APPIPC, BCATML, BAFF-SFU J’enseigne en français, CASTL/ACPLS. For BCLCA Conference, please contact them directly.
  • Apply directly to the organization for the following training programs: UBC French Summer Institutes, l'Institut de français, UBC à Québec , and UVIC La Maison Française.

Registration fees of up to $1500 for one training program per year and up to $300 for one conference per year.

Travel and Accommodation Subsidy

Educators who must travel more than 100km each way can receive $800 in additional funding for travel and accommodation for each training program or conference. Where a private vehicle is used, mileage will be reimbursed at $0.61/km. Where private lodging (stay with family or friends) is used in lieu of commercial accommodation, reimbursement of $35 per night may be claimed. Daily expenses during the trip (i.e., food, taxi, gas, car rental) are not covered. Applicants must request the Travel and Accommodation subsidy when applying for the bursary.

Disability and Childcare Subsidy

Additional funding of $300 per year is available to people with disabilities needing accommodations and/or those requiring childcare to attend the conference or training program. You must request the Disability and Childcare subsidy when you apply for the bursary.

• Bursaries are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Bursaries are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents living in B.C.
• Bursaries can be combined with other sources of funding, including student teacher credits, provided that the amount of the bursary does not exceed the total costs incurred.
• All bursaries are taxable income. Recipients will be issued a T4A slip.

Application Deadline: February 28

• For courses or conferences taking place between September and June, apply by February 28 of the same academic year.
• For summer courses and conferences, apply by February 28 of the following year.

E.g. February 28, 2025 is the deadline to apply for courses ending between June 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025
