Supporting Documents

The documents you are required to submit depend on the type of teaching certificate you are applying for. The documents support your application for teacher certification. We ask for specific documents to determine your eligibility under:

After you submit your application form, an evaluator will review it. After the review, we will email you to tell you about the customized list of supporting documents that you'll need to submit. You can find your customized document list, and check the status of your application, in Your Account.

There are some documents that you will need to submit to us, and there are some documents that other people or organizations will need to provide on your behalf.

When you submit your documents as PDFs directly through Your Account, we can process them more quickly than if you email them to us. If you can't upload a document in Your Account, you will be able email it as a PDF or JPEG file. Processing times for documents that you email can vary. Note: We do not accept documents shared via cloud storage providers (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.).

If you have asked for official documents to be submitted on your behalf and we do not receive them, please follow up with the third party to make sure the documents are sent.

Inability to Submit Required Documents

You may not be able to get a document that is on your customized list of required documents. If you can’t provide a document that we have asked for, it may affect the time it takes for us to review and evaluate your application and to determine if you are eligible for a teaching certificate.

However, we may still be able to assess your application for a teaching certificate based on additional information that you provide. This additional information may include the reason(s) why you can't get the document. Your reasons may include circumstances that are outside your control:

  • An institution (such as a school or governmental organization) is unable to provide the required document because it no longer exists, is not operational or has lost records due to war, upheaval, natural disaster or other crisis
  • An institution refuses to provide the required document
  • You fear that you will be discriminated against or persecuted if you contact an institution to request the document

If you have tried to get a document, or you have requested that the document be sent to us, and you have been unsuccessful, please complete and submit the Inability to Submit Required Document Form (PDF). We will review your submitted form when we evaluate your application, after we have received all the other required documents.
