Bulletin 23-12: Clarification of renewal fee calculations

Publication date: November 27, 2023

Who's impacted

This change applies only to the following licences:

  • Liquor Primary (LP)
  • Food Primary (FP)
  • Licensee Retail Store (LRS)
  • Rural Liquor Retail Store (RLRS)
  • Wine Store
  • Catering

What's changing

Purchases made from another licensed establishment are now excluded from the licence renewal fee calculation, as described in the Liquor Control and Licensing Regulation (LCLR). This change better reflects the way renewal fees are currently calculated.

The way renewal fees are currently calculated is not changing. The fee remains calculated based on the amount of liquor purchased during the 12-month period ending six months before the licence expiry date from:

  • The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB)
  • BC LIQUOR store
  • Authorized manufacturers, or
  • Other outlets designated by the LDB
