February 14, 2021 - 3:15pm
At 3:15 pm, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) was notified of a manure storage tank failure at a dairy farm in Agassiz. The tank was holding approximately 6,056,660 liters of liquid manure. An unknown volume of material entered a nearby ditch with downstream connection to a watercourse. Mitigation measures have been introduced to prevent further release into the environment, the source of the failure has been contained, and material is no longer being released. Upcoming measures to utilize the spilled materials are being examined.
