January 7, 2020 - 1:15 pm
A motor vehicle accident involving a Super B transport truck and passenger vehicle occurred on Highway 1, north between Hope and Yale on Jan. 6, 2020. A fatality has been reported and RCMP have conducted an investigation. The truck leaked approximately 7,299 liters of diesel fuel to the surrounding area. An environmental contractor is cleaning up the impacted soil. Air monitoring was conducted and no unsafe levels were identified.
A response contractor arrived on site earlier to pump out the diesel fuel from the damaged unit. The transport truck and trailer unit are being removed from the site and Highway 1 is open in both directions. Local First Nations have been notified.
An Environmental Emergency Response Officer (EERO) will continue to monitor the response actions for this incident. No additional updates are anticipated.
