May 25, 2018 - 8:30 am
Fuel from the truck and the tanker was offloaded last night (May 24, 2018). Fire officials, a Ministry of Environment response officer and hazardous materials contractors were on scene to ensure the fuel was offloaded safely. The vehicle was removed at approximately 11:40 pm and the highway was re-opened approximately one hour later.
During recovery, a crack was discovered on the fuel tanker that the truck was hauling. A small (approx. 5L) amount of fuel was lost. Small amounts of vehicle fluids were also lost at the time of the accident. Fuel cleanup occurred last night and a site assessment will take place today.
No further updates are expected at this time.

Past Updates
May 24, 2018 – 3 pm
RCMP are in charge of the scene and conducting accident scene assessment. Two response officers on site have confirmed there was no release of furnace oil from the truck. The response contractor is conducting clean up operations, including transferring the remaining furnace oil from the truck so it can be removed from the scene. Response officers and fire officials will continue to monitor response actions for public safety. More information will be provided if necessary.
May 24, 2018 - 1 pm
The fuel truck is reported to be on its side and leaking furnace oil to the ditch from the rear hatch. CRD Hazmat is on-route, and Langford Fire Rescue is on-scene conducting initial spill mitigation measures. There are no reports of water course impacts as this time. A Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy response officer has arrived on scene and is conducting an assessment. A second response officer has been dispatched. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
