May 13, 2022 - 3:30 pm

The vehicle has been safely removed from the river with the truck now transported to Revelstoke. The trailer will remain onsite over the weekend to allow water to be removed. Silt fencing will be installed as a precautionary measure. No additional fuel has been found in the river and there is no longer any visible sheen on the water.

An Environmental Emergency Response Officer (EERO) from the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) continues to monitor the situation.

No further updates are expected at this time.

May 12, 2022 - 3:30 pm

Recovery of the truck has been temporarily suspended due to increased water levels in the river. Response personnel are examining options for removing the vehicle safely and with minimal impact to the environment.

Recovery will resume on Friday, May 13^th and the road along the river will be closed for several hours. Spill booms will remain in place around the truck as a precaution and Environmental Emergency Response Officers (EERO) from the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) will continue monitor the situation.

May 9, 2022 - 2:30 pm

Recovery efforts continue onsite today with booms remaining in place to absorb spilled material. Heavy rain has caused the water around the truck to rise approximately three (3) feet which has slowed efforts to remove it from the river. There is no indication of any additional fuel leaking from the truck’s fuel tank. Initial water samples have also been taken from the river and will continue to be collected.

An Environmental Emergency Response Officer (EERO) from the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) are onsite monitoring the situation.

May 6, 2022 - 4:30 pm

On May 5th a truck and its trailer crashed off Highway 1 into Eagle River near the Enchanted Forest approximately 35km west of Revelstoke. The trailer was carrying mail and the driver sustained minor injuries. A small amount of fuel from the truck has leaked into the water resulting in a visible sheen. It is estimated that the truck is carrying approximately 300 litres of diesel in its fuel tank.

Environmental Emergency Response Officers (EERO) from the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) are onsite monitoring the situation. RAM Environmental is also onsite assisting with cleanup efforts.

Notifications have been made to the B.C. Ministry of Health, Emergency Management B.C., Interior Health, First Nations Health Authority, B.C. Parks as well as First Nations in the area.
