March 22, 2019 - 11:40 am

Approximately 20 m of ditch and some private property near the incident site was impacted by the spill. No fuel or wine is visible on the surface of the ground. The ditch was not carrying any water and no snow was on the ground. At this time, no waterways have been impacted. 

The fuel released from the saddle tank was minor and was plugged by a first responder. The coroner is en route to the accident scene. 

No further updates are anticipated unless the situation worsens.  

March 22, 2019 - 8:23 am

A semi truck collided with a small passenger vehicle resulting in a fatality approximately 8 km east of Hedley, 22 km west of Keremeos on Highway 3. The semi truck was carrying red wine and an unknown amount of wine has spilled as a result of the incident. It is unknown at this time if the truck's saddle tanks have been compromised.

The coroner is en route and Highway 3 will remain closed. A traffic detour is being established. Please visit DriveBC for more information on highway closures and detours.
