On April 9, 2018, a fishing vessel, the Western Commander, was reported to be sinking west of Triple Island Lighthouse west of Prince Rupert. Canadian Coast Guard investigated and reported the vessel had approximately 2,000 L of diesel on board. No pollution was observed.
On April 10, 2018, Canadian Coast Guard reported a sheen of fuel approximately 40 m wide. The sheen was moving northwest, away from land.
