Option 1: Just provide a BC Services Card with a photo
There are 2 types of BC Services Cards that have a photo:
You will not need to provide other ID with this option.
Option 2: Provide a BC Services Card without a photo + photo ID
You'll need to provide additional ID if you use a BC Services Card without a photo.
If your additional ID does not have the exact name as on your BC Services Card:
Accepted photo ID
The number of IDs you need will depend on what type of ID you have.
Choose just one of these photo IDs:
- B.C. driver's licence
- BC Identity Card (BCID)
- Canadian passport
- Canadian citizenship card
- Canadian permanent resident card
- Secure Certificate of Indian Status card, issued by the Government of Canada
- Canadian identity card, issued by Global Affairs Canada
Or, choose two IDs from the following lists:
First, choose one that is issued within Canada:
- Canadian birth certificate
- Canadian study permit
- Canadian work permit
- Canadian visitor record
- Canadian temporary resident permit
- Other immigration record issued in Canada
Secondly, choose one of these photo IDs:
- Passport, issued by a country other than Canada
- Driver's licence, issued in Canada or the U.S.
- Identity card, issued in Canada or the U.S.
- Health card with photo, issued in Canada
- Tla’amin Nation citizenship card
- Métis (MNBC) ID card
- Certificate of Indian Status
- NEXUS card
Option 3: Provide 2 pieces of government-issued ID
If you do not have a BC Services Card, you can now provide 2 pieces of government-issued ID instead. At least one of them must have a photo on it.
It's important to know that:
First, choose one of the following IDs issued in Canada:
- B.C. driver's licence
- BC Identity Card (BCID)
- Canadian passport
- Canadian birth certificate
- Canadian study permit
- Canadian work permit
- Canadian visitor record
- Canadian citizenship card
- Canadian permanent resident card
- Canadian temporary resident permit

- Secure Certificate of Indian Status card, issued by the Government of Canada

Then, choose another ID from the list above, or one of these IDs:
- Passport, issued by a country other than Canada
- Driver's licence, issued by any location in Canada or the U.S.
- Identity card, issued by any location in Canada or the U.S.
- Health card with photo, issued in Canada
- Tla’amin Nation citizenship card
- Métis (MNBC) ID card
- Certificate of Indian Status
- NEXUS card
ID requirements
Photocopies
ID must be an original, or a true copy of the original, certified by the issuing government agency.
Photocopies are not accepted.
Expired ID
All your ID must be valid and not expired.
ID in English
At this time, we only accept ID in English. In some cases, you can use ID that has been translated.
