Section 69.2 enables the Minister responsible for the Act to designate a provincial identity information services provider (PIISP) as well as to issue directions to the PIISP and to public bodies regarding the provision of credentials to citizens and the collection, use and disclosure of personal identity information. This section also sets out the services that a PIISP may provide.
This provision was added to the Act in 2011 as part of a package of amendments which laid the foundation for establishing the provincial identity information services provider and the BC Services Card as a secure method of identifying citizens to enable them to access services both online and in person.

The Minister responsible for the Act has designated what is now the Ministry of Citizens' Services as the provincial identity information services provider for BC under section 69.2(1). As the PIISP, the Ministry of Citizens’ Services is authorized to provide the following services for BC:
