Project number: EP 1017
District: Selkirk Forest District
Objectives
- Monitor vegetation cover and composition on burned and unburned portions of cutblock
- Monitor the impact of a broadcast burn on soil properties
Experimental design
Three areas were compared descriptively:
- Unburned ICHdw/01a
- Burned ICHdw/01a
- Burned ICHdw/01b
Layout
- 5 - 15m line intersect transects and 25 - .5 m2 quadrats to measure shrub and herb cover and height on each of the areas described above
- 3 - 30m triangles for fuel, forest floor and soil monitoring
History
- August 1985 pre-burn measurements
- September 1985 prescribed burn and post-burn measurements
- August 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 remeasurement
- Spring 1998 resample soils
