On May 24, 2007, Solicitor General John Les, Shirley Bond, Minister of Education, and Gordon Hogg, Minister for Act Now, announced a funding program to help Parent Advisory Councils (PAC) replace aged and worn playground equipment in elementary and middle schools throughout the province.
On September 24, 2007, the new online application for PAC Playground grants was implemented by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. Application information is available by clicking the link at the bottom of this news item.
This grant provides PACs with up to $20,000 in matching funds for playground equipment replacement. Replacement of playgrounds that were removed due to safety concerns, as well as replacing very old (over 15 years old) playground equipment, will be the focus for the first year of this $1 million grant program. The program will continue through 2008/09 and 2009/10, with $1 million in grant funding being available in each of those years.
In the first year of this program, applications must be made online during the period September 24 to November 30, 2007. Grants will be disbursed by January 31, 2008.
Eligibility requirements include a commitment from the School District that the playground will be installed and ready for use by September 2008.
