On July 15 the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) launched an updated and expanded version of its PlayNow.com online gambling website, which included an online casino. Shortly after the launch, the website was shut down until technical issues which emerged could be corrected.
Several organizations were involved in reviews related to the identification of the root cause of the issue and confirmation of the effectiveness of the remediation plans which were developed in response. This work involved BCLC, TST (a GLI Company), Deloitte & Touche LLP, the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB), and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC). All of the work was overseen by GPEB.
The technical reviews and remediation activities are now complete. Both GPEB and the OIPC have issued letters to BCLC authorizing the re-activation of the PlayNow.com website.
