Apr 10, 2015 - Criminal Code Amendment Survey for Class A & B Licensees

On December 16, 2014 amendments to the Criminal Code of Canada came into force allowing certain charitable organizations licensed by a province or territory to operate lottery schemes on or through a computer if and as permitted by the province or territory.

The amendment allows the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB) to establish a licensing scheme that permits charities to sell tickets on-line through the internet, use a computer to generate a winning ticket number, and/or distribute prizes through the internet.

GPEB is examining how the change may be implemented in British Columbia. GPEB’s objective is to develop a policy, procedure and standards framework to govern computerized raffles that ensures the continued integrity of gaming in the Province.

GPEB is soliciting input from licensees through a short on-line survey, which has been emailed to all organizations that had a Class A or Class B raffle license in 2014. If your organization holds or has held a Class A or B license to operate a raffle in BC, but did not receive the emailed survey, please contact Gaming.Branch@gov.bc.ca.
