This list of zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) available in Canada is not comprehensive and is only provided to help you determine whether a vehicle is a zero-emission vehicle.
You can review the details on how provincial sales tax applies to ZEVs in Bulletin PST 308, PST on Vehicles (PDF, 460KB).
If you purchase, lease or are gifted a used ZEV, you are exempt from paying PST. Qualifying used ZEVs include:
Hybrids that are not plug-in hybrids do not qualify for the ZEV exemption.
If you purchase a used ZEV privately or receive it as a taxable gift, the ZEV must have 6,000 km or more on the odometer to be eligible for the PST exemption.
The exemption will be provided by the motor vehicle dealer or leasing company when you buy or lease the ZEV, or by ICBC when you register the ZEV if it was privately purchased or imported into B.C.
Each make indicated in the list below includes all accompanying trims, given the ZEV requirements are met. For more information on ZEV requirements, see Bulletin PST 116, Motor Vehicle Dealers and Leasing Companies (PDF, 340KB).
Vehicles on this list may still be subject to verification on audit to confirm the vehicle is a zero-emission vehicle.
