Overview
When you're required to take job-related courses or training in the BC Public Service, the costs are covered. This includes:
- Tuition fees
- Entrance or registration fees
- Course-required books
- Other approved and legitimate expenses such as travel expenses to get to a course
Examples:
- On-campus courses at accredited educational institutions taken for credit
- Correspondence courses through recognized schools
- Work-related or business courses at recognized schools
- Technical courses at recognized engineering/ technical institutions
- Job-related seminars
B.C. government employees who wish to further their education may be eligible for Pacific Leaders scholarships.
Conferences, conventions and other meetings
You may be reimbursed for registration and conference fees when you're required or permitted to attend conferences or meetings for work.
Financial support outside work
You're responsible for reporting all sources of outside financial support for education and training. This includes:
- Scholarships
- Bursaries
- Other types of assistance
Training costs may be partially, or not at all, covered when receiving outside support.
How to apply
- Fill out Part 1 of the Training and Development Application, Registration and Reimbursement (PDF, 938KB) form
- Submit a signed, hard copy to your supervisor for approval and completion of Part 2
- Obtain approval from a spending authority for reimbursement of training expenses
- Register for training/education course
- Keep the original Application
Once training or development is completed
- Confirm the Costs section of the form and indicate the method of payment for course/training fees
- Attach original receipts or invoices to the original application for payment processing
- Attach proof of completion, certification, license or statement of grades to the reimbursement request
- Photocopy and forward to your Ministry Training Administrator and Leave Administrator
