Child care counsellor

BC Public Service child care counsellors provide therapeutic care to a group of adolescents or children with physical, behavioural and personality problems in a residential, daycare or other setting.

This may include:

• Counselling groups and individuals with physical, behavioural and personality problems
• Guiding the development of good social and work habits
• Assisting with school, vocational and occupational work, recreation, physical care and household tasks
• Participating in planning for and in discussion of progress of children in care
• Undertaking some clinical involvement with patients when required
• Supervising or assigning the above duties to other child care counsellors

Note: Per the 19th Main Public Service Agreement, the employer and the BCGEU have jointly agreed that, effective April 1, 2022, the point band range for Grid 11 will be amalgamated with the point band range for Grid 12.

As a result of this decision, Grid 11 will no longer be used and all employees who are currently at the Grid 11 level will be moved over to their same classification at the Grid 12 level.
