About the Open Information and Open Data Policy
In July 2011, B.C. introduced the Open Information and Open Data Policy (PDF, 484.4 KB) and became the first province in Canada to publish data under an open licence.
The Policy establishes:
- Open Government Licence - British Columbia (OLG-BC)
- Procedures for assessing and releasing Open Data
- Open Data Physical Dataset Format Standard (PDF, 181 KB)
- Requirement for government's open data to be shared in the BC Data Catalogue

Ministry Open Data Assessment Checklist
Ministries must complete the Open Data Assessment and Checklist to determine if data meets the requirements of the Open Information and Open Data Policy.
