Tax-based Income Data

This source of data is collected primarily from income tax returns submitted to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

CRA provides annual personal income data aggregated to geographic areas based on the postal code and place name as it appears in the mailing address from the T1 Income Tax and Benefit Return. The geographic areas include:

  • Provinces and territories
  • Census divisions
  • Census subdivisions
  • Census metropolitan areas
  • Census agglomerations
  • Census metropolitan influenced zones

Distributions by income level and average income as well as aggregate income by source of income (employment, pension, investment, self-employment and other) are available for British Columbia from CRA and Statistics Canada.
