Government is providing an additional $169 million in operating grants to school districts in 2019/20 for a total of $5.399 billion.
The ministry is improving equity in the system by increasing funding rates that support students with special needs, Indigenous education and rural students. The rate for Indigenous Education is increasing 17.9%, rates for rural and remote districts are increasing approximately 9% and rates for students with special needs between 4%-9%. The basic per-student allocation for standard, alternate and continuing education schools is also increasing in 2019/20.
