Standards for educators

The standards for educators were developed by the BC Teachers' Council and the Independent School Teaching Certificate Standards Committee to:

  • Establish commonly held standards of practice and conduct that help to guide teacher education, practice and ongoing professional growth
  • Communicate to the public the standards that educators hold
  • Establish a regulatory framework that guides the Ministry of Education and Child Care and other decision makers in decisions related to teacher education programs, certification, fitness to practice and discipline of certified teachers

For educators with a Certificate of Qualification

 

For educators with an independent school teaching certificate

Independent schools and their communities may have developed specific codes and standards of conduct that serve their educational philosophy or community standards. Breach of these standards may not also be a breach of the regulatory standards for conduct and competence.
