What is the Role of Regional Districts?
Last updated on August 5, 2020Like municipalities, regional districts can use various approaches, specific tools and strategies to support economic development in their communities.
Regional districts are a unique type of municipal government in charge of planning for electoral areas. They can adopt zoning bylaws and official community plans. They can also do region-wide planning. This includes developing a regional growth strategy or leading economic development planning on behalf of their communities.
Smaller communities in regional districts have the benefit of joining with others on projects, to have a larger impact and combine funds.

The Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission (COEDC) is an agency of the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO). The Commission is funded by and accountable to the elected board of the RDCO.
