Who is involved in the disaster and climate risk and resilience assessments?

Last updated on July 25, 2024

The disaster and climate risk and resilience assessments (DCRRA) rely on an inclusive process that uniquely engages and brings together an array of partners, experts, and perspectives to collaboratively shape its development and implementation, in provincial and regional phases.

Working in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples

The Province is committed to developing the assessments in collaboration with First Nations, Modern Treaty Nations, and organizations serving Indigenous Peoples.

This commitment aligns with the B.C. First Nations Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan, B.C. First Nations Action Plan for Risk Reduction (PDF, 4MB), and the B.C. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

A First Nations’ Committee on Disaster and Climate Risk has been established to guide this work, along with a First Nations’ Knowledge Exchange to create a space of shared learning. In addition, the Province hosted bi-monthly updates on the assessments' progress, facilitated workshops at the Indigenous Climate Resilience Forum, and attended Gathering Our Voices and other events planned in future months

The Province will continue to align the DCRRA with the work being led by our partners, including the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society and First Nations Health Authority.
