The CleanBC Industry Fund (CIF) continues to support industrial emissions reduction projects. There are currently four funding streams open for proposals:

Guidance

Request for proposals

CleanBC and BC Hydro Industrial Electrification (IE) Program

Open: April 2, 2024

Closing: December 31, 2024

The new IE Program creates a streamlined funding process for large industrial low-carbon electrification projects that require a new or upgraded connection to the BC Hydro Integrated Grid. IE leverages funding from both CIF and BC Hydro’s Low Carbon Electrification – Large Custom program. Application, evaluation and ongoing administration of projects under this program are integrated and administered jointly by CleanBC and BC Hydro.

Two streamlined IE funding pathways are available:

  1. Capital Projects - capital funding for large industrial low-carbon electrification projects
  2. Interconnection Studies - funding for BC Hydro Transmission Connection Studies associated with eligible Capital Projects

Emissions Performance (EP)

Open: April 2, 2024

Closing: May 30, 2024

The EP funding call supports projects that reduce emissions at an industrial operation using commercially available technologies.

Eligibility

Projects must reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in B.C. that are attributable to or associated with reporting operations, through the use of commercially available technologies that reduce emissions intensity.

For more information on the scope and eligibility requirements for EP applications, refer to section 3 of the Request for Proposals – CleanBC Industry Fund – Emissions Performance (PDF, 430KB).

Innovation Accelerator (IA)

Open: April 2, 2024

Closing: June 21, 2024

The IA funding call supports projects that involve the demonstration, pilot or trial of clean technologies or processes with the potential to reduce emissions for industry in B.C.

This stream targets pre-commercial technologies in the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7-8 range, as defined by Innovation Canada. However, novel trial projects for TRL 9 technologies, which meet the eligibility requirements, will also be considered.

Eligibility

  • Projects must have the potential to reduce emissions in B.C. as a direct result of (a) the use of the project’s technology or process at the reporting operations associated with the project and/or (b) the commercial adoption of the project’s technology or process
  • Projects must contribute to innovation through the development of new technologies or processes or through the innovative adaptation of an existing technology or process
  • Project technologies or processes must have a path to commercial adoption if successfully proven viable

Feasibility Studies (FS)

Open: April 2, 2024

Closing: June 28, 2024

The FS funding call supports preliminary studies that aim to provide clarity and confidence to potential projects intending to apply for funding through the EP, IE or IA streams.

The study should help to remove barriers, mitigate risks, and/or determine the viability of a potential project, including whether a project is operationally, technically or economically feasible.

Eligibility

Studies must support work related to a potential project that would be eligible under either the EPIE or IA streams.

For more information on the scope and eligibility requirements for project FS applications, refer to Section 3 of the Request for Proposal – CleanBC Industry Fund – Feasibility Studies (PDF, 390KB).
