The J.T. Fyles Natural Resources Library offers on-site access to our collections and services.

Our mandate
We're a research library with specialized collections that serves the Government of B.C.’s Natural Resource Sector (NRS) ministries.
Our client ministries:
- Sign a service agreement
- Pay annual fees to support Library operations
The service agreement describes the library services available to staff. Under the service agreement, our mandate is to:
- Provide timely access to relevant information products and services
- Address sector clients’ needs
This improves our clients':
- Capacity to stay current and quickly locate information on new issues
- Ability to inform integrated decision-making and accelerate innovation in the natural resource sector

Who we serve
Natural Resources Sector (NRS) ministry staff
Employees of NRS ministries are our primary clients.
Under the terms of the service agreement, primary clients have access to the broadest range of services and assistance, including:
- Acquisition and cataloguing of materials
- Loaning materials
- Interlibrary loans
- Reference and research assistance by phone, by email, and in person
- Customized literature searching
- Desktop access to electronic journals and databases

Members of the public and other ministry employees
We offer limited assistance to the public and employees of other ministries. For example, we can:
- Retrieve materials for you before and during your visit
- Show you how to browse and find materials

Our services
All visitors have access to our online catalog, photocopier, and free Wi-Fi. The scanner is only available to B.C. Government employees.
Online catalogue
Access our online catalogue:
- 24 hours a day
- Seven (7) days a week
- 365 days a year
Bring your own device (BYOD)
The library doesn't have a kiosk or public access computers. So, bring your own device to browse our online catalogue.
Photocopier
All visitors:
- Can use the self-serve photocopier free of charge
- Assume all liability for upholding copyright law while using the photocopier (for details, consult our copyright policy)
Digital scanner
B.C. Government employees:
- Can access the multi-function scanner by signing in with IDIR and password
- Assume all liability for upholding copyright law while using the scanner (for details, consult our copyright policy)
This service is not available to the public.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available to:
B.C. Government employees:
- On the Government of B.C. network (secured)
Members of the public:
- For free on the Dogwood network (unsecured)

Before you visit
- Search our online catalogue.
- Contact us to book an appointment (and tell us what you're looking for)
This way, we can:
- Check if the materials you're looking for are available
- Retrieve the materials from the shelves before you arrive
- Save you time (that you can spend at the library browsing for more items of interest)
- Check our hours and location.
Appointment policy
We reserve the right to:
- Refuse to book appointments at any time and for any reason
- Reschedule or cancel appointments (we'll provide you with as much notice as possible)
For everyone's safety and to provide the best service, we do our best to:
- Accommodate same-day appointments, but prefer at least 18 hours’ notice
- Book only two people or groups at the same time

- 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
- 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
The library is closed to the public from noon to 1:00 pm.
