Sunshine Foragers Ltd., established in 2009 on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, “brings nature to market” by sourcing high quality wild-harvested mushrooms.
The company specializes in supplying fresh and dried morels as well as the coveted Saskatchewan early-season chanterelle. Porcini, lobster and pine are also available upon request.
The principals of Sunshine Foragers began as foragers themselves and still go into the woods to meet with foragers and evaluate the season’s product.
Working with Indigenous peoples is a key component to their business. Many of the harvesters come from B.C.’s First Nations. Sunshine Foragers acknowledges the unceded territory of the First Nations and works with the various Bands, obtaining permission to access product on their traditional land.
Product safety and quality control are key factors in ensuring the product brought to market is of the best quality. This is achieved down the line, from inspections at the field station, to sorting, to packaging.
Sunshine Foragers Ltd. is a boutique business with a limited number of distributors, wholesalers and retailers. This provides them the opportunity to develop personal, lasting relationships with their customers.
