Foster (both full-time and respite) caregivers receive ongoing support from a care circle (a group of trusted people who have knowledge of a child/youth and their strengths and needs – including the child or youth’s family, members of their Indigenous community, social worker, and other community members and professionals). If you've been approved to be a foster caregiver in B.C., we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the following information.
Foster caregivers receive a monthly maintenance payment based on the type of home that covers the costs of caring for a child or youth.
All foster caregivers must complete the PRIDE In-Service training within two years of becoming approved. This specialized mandatory training is free of charge and takes about 53 hours to complete.
