Emerging Economy Task Force

Last updated on May 11, 2020

British Columbia’s economy is influenced by changing global trends, emerging technological advancements, changing business processes, climate change and a variety of other factors.

To better understand how these dynamics shape the future of B.C.’s economy, the B.C. Government established the Emerging Economy Task Force, a commitment under the Confidence and Supply Agreement with the B.C. Green Party.

EETF Final Report Published

The task force has completed its final report (PDF, 3.3 MB) and presented their recommendations for ways government can best support B.C.’s emerging economy to Michelle Mungall, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Competitiveness.

Summary

The task force examined the current state of B.C.’s economy with a view to providing analysis and advice on emerging trends, including new technologies and innovations that will change the nature of business and society over the next 25 years. They explored options for cutting-edge government policies in response to these changes, to ensure B.C. stays at the forefront of emerging economic developments.

The EETF was composed of 14 members, appointed for their expertise, experience, and demonstrated ability to contribute to the discussion and delivery of the mandate.

The work of the EETF was informed by and aligned with other government initiatives, including the Small Business Task Force, Mining Jobs Task Force, and the Climate Solutions and Clean Growth Advisory Council.

Engagement Timeframe

The Task Force started its engagement, assessment and advisory work in the summer of 2018, and their terms expired on December 31, 2019.
