Section 5 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) requires the Province report annually on the progress of work to align laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN Declaration) and the implementation of the Declaration Act Action Plan.
These reports are developed in consultation and co-operation with Indigenous Peoples in B.C. and publicly released by June 30 each year.
The 2023-24 Declaration Act Annual Report details work underway on 60 of 89 specific Declaration Act Action Plan actions, as well as to align provincial laws with the UN Declaration, between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024. It also reflects the tremendous efforts being made to put collective words into action in communities throughout the province.
