The Métis people emerged as a distinct nation in North America during the late 1700s. Today, Métis have their own culture, traditions and language, and are integral to the rich diversity of B.C.
In November 2021, Métis Nation British Columbia and the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation finalized a letter of intent (LOI) that renews a shared commitment to strengthen their relationship and advance reconciliation with Métis people in B.C. The LOI proposes a new whole of government approach to Métis relations as a partnership between MNBC and the Province that respects Métis self-determination.
More on the Métis and their culture and heritage is available through Métis Nation British Columbia.
The Declaration Act Action Plan is an 89-point plan that includes goals, outcomes, and tangible actions needed for meaningful progress in reconciliation from 2022-2027.
