B.C. is focused on strengthening intergovernmental relationships with key partners in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world. The Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat (IGRS) works closely with the federal government and other ministries to support B.C.'s international engagement activities, including:
- Providing advice to the Premier and other ministers to develop and improve government-to-government relationships with other national and sub-national jurisdictions
- Maintaining relations with the Diplomatic and Consular Corps
- Providing leadership to develop and coordinate B.C.'s relations in the Asia-Pacific region
- Supporting outgoing and incoming trade missions
- Developing legally non-binding instruments, such as memoranda of understanding, with other governments
