Security Day - June 23, 2021

Po Tea-Duncan is the interim Executive Director for Cyber Security within Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS)’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) branch. Po has over 20 years of experience in the federal government. She currently leads the teams enabling the delivery of secure and reliable government services through the GC’s digital identity program, enterprise security architecture, security strategy and policy development, and GC Cyber Security Event Management. In 2020, she was named as one of the Top Women in Cyber Security in Canada. Prior to joining TBS, Po served in a variety of roles at Global Affairs Canada in the areas of systems security engineering, architecture, and incident management.

Sophia recently joined the OCIO as Senior Executive Director, Digital Identity Program. Prior to this Sophia has spent the last  7 years as Executive Director of the Provincial Identity Information Management Program (IDIM) in Service BC and was a key lead supporting Ministry of Health in the Province’s COVID response. In Service BC, Sophia led an amazing team and, partnering with Ministry of Health and Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC), was responsible for the issuance of 4.7M BC Services Cards to BC citizens for the purposes of accessing services online and in person.

Today, BC individuals can use their BC Services mobile app to access many services like vaccine immunizations, CRA services, etc.  For 4 years Sophia was co-lead, with Treasury Board Canada, on the Identity priority working group that focuses on advancing Identity across our great nation with Federal-Provincial and Territorial (FPT) colleagues.

Bonnie has been in the public sector for 20 years, and the past 15 of those years have been in Information Security. She has worked in Ministries as well as in the Office of the Chief Information Officer, allowing her to use her experience to solve problems from multiple points of view

Gwen has over 25 years of information security experience in the public sector. She continues to be a life-long learner and has obtained several post-graduate degrees (leadership; public administration), including a doctorate in organizational change and leadership (Walden University)

Lina is the Security Architect and Ministry Information Security Officer for Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE). Prior to joining GCPE, Lina was a Security and Privacy Analyst for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. She is a CISSP and holds two master’s degrees (one in French Linguistics and one in Library and Information Science) from the University of British Columbia

Kimberly has been in the public sector for 15 years, 10 of those involved in the Information Security space. Her experience has encompassed multiple ministries and most recently landed within the Social Sector (SDPR) as one of their MISOs. 

Jaimie Boyd serves as the Chief Digital Officer of the Government of British Columbia, Canada. She leads efforts to embrace digital change, helping government to better serve citizens using modern technologies. She previously served as the Director of Open Government in the Government of Canada, supporting government transparency, accountability and citizen engagement. Ms. Boyd has held past roles across the Government of Canada and in the private sector.  She is an alumnus of the Government of Canada’s Accelerated Economist Training Program, Action Canada, the Institute for Technology and Society’s Global Policy Fellowship and the Organization of American States’ Fellowship on Open Government in the Americas. Maleena Singh has over 20 years experience with the RCMP, and was instrumental in the creation and deployment of the Cyber Investigative and Analysis Team (CIAT). This team is part of the E Division Digital Forensic Services (DFS) and is tasked to provide assistance on cybercrime matters within BC. One of Maleena’s primary roles is to develop and maintain strong partnerships with Private Industry and Academia, as well as Government and Law Enforcement Agencies. As a strong proponent of this belief, the partnerships Maleena has developed have already assisted in active investigations and identifying current cybercrime trends.

Alex MacLennan was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister & Chief Technology Officer, OCIO – Enterprise Services, Citizens’ Services on August 28, 2020

As Chief Technology Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister for the Enterprise Services Division (ES), Alex is responsible for enabling Government to deliver services to citizens by providing high quality, secure and cost-effective information management and technology services. Enterprise Services provides the public service and many broader public sector organizations with data and voice networks, workstations and mobile devices, messaging and collaboration services, information security, data centre and application hosting, and enterprise architecture and standards.  

Before joining Citizens’ Services, Alex worked in the Office of the Premier as the Assistant Deputy Minister for Cabinet Operations and Deputy Cabinet Secretary, where he led the team that supported ministries in bringing forward decisions to Cabinet and its committees.

Alex has held several executive roles with the BC Public Service during his 17 years of service including Executive Director of Social Policy with Treasury Board Staff, Executive Director of the Road Safety Initiative with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and Executive Director of Strategic Design with the Government Digital Experience.

Alex is passionate about the public service and is always striving to build high performing teams that improve services and outcomes for citizens.

Alex holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Victoria and a certificate in Executive Leadership from Sauder Business School.
