Reasonable Utilization of a Polysomnography Facility

• In July 2021, the Commission approved a benchmark level for reasonable utilization of a polysomnography facility:

Reasonable Utilization (# of studies per week)

= (# of polysomnography beds x 6 days/week) x 70%

i.e.: 6 beds x 6 days/week x 0.7 = ~25 studies per week

Note: Fewer beds, utilized at a rate greater than that defined as “reasonable utilization” may be considered equivalent

• The Commission has decided that priority consideration for publicly owned facilities (Use of Existing Facilities policy) will be provided only when the publicly owned polysomnography facility is achieving reasonable utilization of its existing capacity.
