Rural Practice Partners

The goals of the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues (JSC) are to enhance the availability and stability of services provided by physicians in rural and remote areas of British Columbia by addressing some of the uniquely demanding and difficult circumstances attendant upon the provisions of those services by physicians. The JSC was formed in 2001 under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement and is comprised of members from the Ministry of Health, The Doctors of BC, and Health Authorities.

Health Match BC is a free health professional recruitment service funded by the Ministry of Health. Health Match BC facilitate opportunities for Rural BC physicians by providing information and assistance to candidates and recruitment assistance to the community.

Locums for Rural BC is a division of Health Match BC, and provides full support for the Rural GP Locum Program, the Rural GP Anesthesia Program, and the Rural Specialist Locum Program. 

Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCBC) seeks to improve rural health education and advocates for rural health in British Columbia.Their primary focus is on education, recruitment and retention of physicians in rural B.C. 

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia regulates the practice of medicine under the authority of provincial law. All physicians who practise medicine in the province must be registrants of the College.The College’s overriding interest is the protection and safety of patients and the role of the College is to ensure physicians meet expected standards of practice and conduct.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine educates health professional and life sciences students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels. The main campus is located in Vancouver BC, with distributed medical education sites in Victoria, Kelowna and Prince George. 

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is responsible for planning, management, service delivery and funding of health programs, in partnership with First Nations communities in BC. Guided by the vision of embedding cultural safety and humility into health service delivery, the FNHA ​works to reform the way health care is delivered to BC First Nations through direct services, provincial partnership collaboration, and health systems innovation.  

Nisga'a Valley Health Authority (NVHA) is committed to improving the health of the Nisga'a Nation. Effective health service delivery is key to improving Nisga'a health. The NVHA prides itself on the highest level of physicians and nurses it recruits to deliver health care services to all peoples resident in the Nass Valley. NVHA medical staff are experts in their respective fields, and they are dedicated to strengthening the health of people within Nisga'a communities.

Northern Health provides health services to 300,000 people over an area of 600,000 square kilometers in northern British Columbia.

Interior Health delivers health-care services to a large population across a vast geographic region. 

Island Health provides health care and support services to more than 765,000 people on Vancouver Island, the islands in the Salish Sea and the Johnstone Strait, and the mainland communities north of Powell River. 

Vancouver Coastal Health serve the residents of Vancouver, Richmond, the North Shore and Coast Garibaldi, Sea-to-Sky, Sunshine Coast, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola.

Fraser Health deliver a wide range of health care services to more than 1.8 million people living in communities stretching from Burnaby to White Rock to Hope.
