AgriStability Margins Explained

How your Margin is Calculated

Your farm history is used to compare your Production Margin to your Reference Margin. When your Production Margin falls 30% or more below your Reference Margin, AgriStability could provide a payment. A Calculation of Benefits (COB) provides details about how your payment was calculated, and will be sent to you once your Statement A Harmonized Form is processed.

  • Your Production Margin or Program Year Margin is determined by calculating your Allowable Income minus your Allowable Expenses. It is updated annually based on the Statement A Harmonized Form information you provide.
  • Your Reference Margin is calculated using the average of your last 5 years of production, removing the highest and lowest production years
  • A Negative Margin is when your Program Year Margin is less than zero, in this situation, you will also be eligible to receive payments on the negative portion of your margin
  • Allowable Income and Allowable Expenses are those directly related to primary production of your agriculture commodities

AgriStability uses the five-year Olympic Average Margin, which does not include the highest and lowest years.
