Private moorage in the Southern Gulf Islands and Southeast Vancouver Islands

Last updated on September 20, 2024

Construction of a private moorage facility in the Southern Gulf Islands and Southeast Vancouver Islands (SGI-SVI) requires B.C. government authorization.

Status of in-stream applications for private moorage in the SGI-SVI

The review process for existing private moorage applications in the SGI-SVI is as follows:

  • Applications already submitted for new and replacement private moorage are being referred internally to B.C. government marine biologists, and to external agencies (local governments, Transport Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and others if appliable) for review.

The review will consider the views of internal and external agencies gathered through the referral process as well as consultation with impacted First Nations. The review will inform decision making in this area.
