Apply online (LEXIS)

Last updated on September 17, 2024

The Log Exemption Information System (LEXIS) allows companies to apply on-line and receive exemptions and permits through a secure internet site and/or email. We recommend using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer for best functionality in LEXIS.

Requesting access to LEXIS

Whether you are entering your exemption applications on-line directly into LEXIS or submitting LEXIS XML files on-line through the Electronic Submission Framework (ESF), you need to be granted access to LEXIS.

To gain access, email the following information to Provincial.Log.Export.Analyst@gov.bc.ca:

  1. The Business BCeID to be used to login to LEXIS. Many industry users will already have a Business BCeID for use with other ministry on-line applications and it can also be used with LEXIS. If not, you can search for your company within the BCeID Online Business Directory. Next, contact the Profile or Account Manager listed for your company to request access. If your company is not found, follow the registration process to obtain a Business BCeID.
  2. The name, email address and telephone number associated with the login BCeID. This will allow us to confirm the correct BCeID.
  3. The company name and ministry client number for the company to be linked to the BCeID. Many industry users will already have a ministry client number that can be used in LEXIS. Please ask if you need help to identify the ministry client number.

Once the above information is processed an email notification will be sent to the email address associated with the BCeID stating your access to LEXIS is active.

How to use LEXIS and ESF

For reference, there is a how-to manual for the day-to-day processes of applications, exemptions and permits: LEXIS 2.11 User Manual for Industry Users (PDF, 2.1MB).

UPGRADE to LEXIS 2.11:  There was an upgrade to LEXIS 2.11 on June 27, 2024. Primarily, the upgrade accommodates the 2019 Coast Fee in Lieu policy and requires all electronic file submissions to use Schema 3 (instead of Schema 2) as of the launch date. Should you have any questions or concerns about these changes to LEXIS, see Trouble-shooting section below for assistance.

The list of upgrades is detailed on the LEXIS 2.11 Enhancements (PDF, 157KB).

Users can complete the Subscribe section on this page to receive timely email notifications concerning the status of the online LEXIS application.

There is an Industry Guide to the preparation and on-line submission of LEXIS XML documents through the Electronic Submissions Framework (ESF) that may provide additional detail:
