Blanket Salvage Cutting Permit - Forestry

Last updated on August 28, 2018

A blanket salvage permit is a cutting permit issued to major licensees holding an existing tenure—a replaceable forest licence or tree farm licence—where small blocks that meet certain criteria are amended into the blanket salvage permit.

Adding small blocks to an existing tenure can be an effective way to quickly salvage timber damaged by insects, diseases, animals, abiotic factors or harvest small dispersed patches of dead or damaged timber.

This permit has two benefits. It allows the removal of small patches of insect-infested timber to help stop the spread of insects and improve sanitation. In addition, the permit facilitates the recovery of what otherwise may be unrecoverable losses to Crown revenue from dead or damaged timber.
