Operational planning — cutblock design has two major heading:

1. General planning procedures for biodiversity management at the stand level
2. Windthrow
   • Windthrow consideration in patch planning
   • Windthrow considerations in riparian areas

Biodiversity at the stand level can be effectively maintained through proper planning, assessment, and layout at the block engineering and developing phase.

In addition to biodiversity, various factors including forest operations, worker safety, windthrow, and other specific objectives (e.g., visual quality, forest health) must be incorporated into cutblock design.

A brief discussion of windthrow management and general planning procedures for implementing biodiversity management are described below.
