7.5 Biodiversity objectives for permanent range

Last updated on January 10, 2024

Forest stand activities that may impact range biodiversity objectives include:

  • Old growth — (PNC) — maintain old growth characteristics
  • Potential harvest area — maintain open canopy; consider restocking at lower density
  • Area of forest encroachment — manage with precommercial thinning and prescribed fire to restore natural plant community
  • Riparian area — manage to maintain natural vegetation corridors of deep rooted riparian species
  • Grassland — manage for deep-rooted perennial grass species

permanent range

  1. Maintenance of permanent range and protection of riparian area
  2. Old growth — (PNC) — maintain old growth characteristics
  3. Potential harvest area — maintain open canopy; consider restocking at lower density
  4. Area of forest encroachment — manage with precommercial thinning and prescribed fire to restore natural plant community
  5. Riparian area — manage to maintain natural vegetation corridors of deep rooted riparian species
  6. Grassland — manage for deep-rooted perennial grass species
