B.C. Mining Jobs Task Force

Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Michelle Mungall established the B.C. Mining Jobs Task Force on February 26, 2018, to review exploration and mining in the province and find ways to strengthen this important industry.

Mineral exploration, mining and related sectors in B.C. provide jobs for more than 30,000 people in communities throughout the province and, adds over $8 billion to B.C.’s economy. The sector also provides the minerals, metals and steelmaking coal needed for electric cars, wind turbines and transit systems to support the global movement towards a low carbon future.

Over the past year, the Task Force worked with First Nations, the mining industry and communities to develop recommendations on possible actions government could take to bring more certainty to the mining sector and create good jobs for people today, tomorrow and beyond.

The Task Force looked at all aspects of mineral exploration and mining in British Columbia and provided 25 recommendations to government on measures it might implement to make B.C. the most attractive jurisdiction for investment in Canada.

The Task Force submitted its final report, including recommendations to Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Michelle Mungall on December 19, 2018.
