How to Report a Crime - Youth

You can report a crime at any time in British Columbia by calling police.

• For emergencies, call 911 immediately or your local emergency number.
• For non-emergencies, call your local police.

Crime Stoppers

You can report a crime anonymously or leave an anonymous tip about a crime anytime, 24 hours a day, free of charge in B.C., by:

• Calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477),
• Completing and submitting the secure and encrypted Crime Stoppers online tip form

Confidentially One-on-One

You can speak with someone one-on-one and in confidence by calling any of the following numbers anytime, 24 hours a day, free of charge in B.C.:

• VictimLinkBC - If you would prefer to speak with someone other than the police, you can contact VictimLink BC. You will find a safe and confidential situation where you can discuss your experience and decide what you want to do. Call 1-800-563-0808
• Youth Against Violence Line at 1-800-680-4264
• Helpline for Children and Youth at 310-1234 (no area code required)

There are limits to confidentiality when children or young people are involved. Anyone who believes a child (under 19) is being harmed and is in need of protection has a legal duty to report the situation to child protection authorities. This includes victim services workers.

Support Available

Many support services and people are available to help you.  Support workers can help you deal with what has happened. They can also help you report a crime if that is what you decide to do.
