Who we are

• The Investigation and Standards Office (ISO) is established by the Correction Act (the Act) to provide oversight to BC Corrections.
• ISO has the authority to conduct investigations at the request of the minister or the director on matters involving the administration of the Act.
• The Act establishes legal authority to provide safe, secure, and humane detention of sentenced and remanded people in provincial correctional centres in British Columbia.

What we do

Correctional complaints

ISO investigates complaints made by people in custody and under community supervision. ISO provides an additional level of oversight for BC Corrections’ complaint process to ensure that concerns are being addressed quickly and fairly.

Review disciplinary hearings

Upon request, ISO conducts reviews of disciplinary hearings to ensure the disciplinary process in correctional centres is conducted in alignment with administrative law.

Critical incident reviews

ISO investigates serious incidents within BC Corrections facilities and makes recommendations to address contributing factors.

Systemic quality reviews

ISO conducts inspections of adult provincial correctional centres in B.C. to ensure compliance with international standards of confinement.
