After you have reported for the first time to a registration centre, you must continue to report at certain times:
- You must report in person to a registration centre once a year for the number of years set out in your Notice.
- You must report any time between 11 months and one year after you last reported to a registration centre.
- You must report in person or by telephone within 7 days after you change your main residence (the place where you live most of the time) or any secondary residence (a place other than your main residence where you live regularly).
- If you change your name, you must report this change in person or by telephone to a registration centre within 7 days of changing your name.
- You must report in person or by telephone within 7 days after you receive a driver’s licence.
- You must report in person or by telephone within 7 days after you receive a passport.
- If you change where you are employed or where you are engaged as a volunteer, or the name of your employer or the person who engages you as a volunteer changes, you must report this change to a registration centre within 7 days of those changes.
- If you are outside of Canada when you change your residence or your name and it is during your obligation period, you must report to a registration centre in person or by phone within 7 days after you return to Canada.
- If you are in custody for more than 7 days for any reason, you may report by registered mail or by telephone to the British Columbia Sex Offender Information Registration Centre. Ask the staff for information about how to contact this registration centre.
- If you are outside of Canada when you are required to report under any obligation you must report in person or by telephone (as permitted above) no later than 7 days after your return to Canada.
Offences and penalties
If you do not follow your obligations or if you knowingly provide false or misleading information to the registration centre, you may be found guilty of an offence under the Criminal Code. You could be fined up to $10,000, go to jail for up to 2 years or both.
