About the Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division

The Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division of the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General develops and delivers community safety and crime prevention programs. The division:

• Provides leadership, advice, training and expertise on community safety issues
• Partners with organizations, communities and government to coordinate comprehensive services
• Funds key community justice and crime prevention organizations in communities throughout British Columbia
• Supports volunteer-based community accountability programs that embrace restorative justice
• Supports and oversees the Youth Against Violence Line that provides a safe, confidential means of preventing and reporting incidents of youth violence or crime or seeking assistance from local police
• Administers the annual Solicitor General Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards which recognize individuals, groups and programs that have made outstanding contributions to crime prevention and community safety.

The division also supports:

• Victims of crime and their families
• Victims of domestic and family violence
• Children who witness abuse
