Arts and Culture Initiatives

The Government of British Columbia works to increase access and participation in arts and culture activities through policy and program development and funding support.

Culture Policy and Programs

• BC Family Day funding in partnership with the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the BC Museums Association
• BC Art Collection
• After School Sport and Arts Initiative
• Culture Days
• BC Museums Week
• Co-developing a repatriation policy framework as per the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan.
• Advancing cultural, strategic and corporate priorities such as provincial investments in the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Ministerial Mandate Letter Commitments
Major cultural infrastructure initiatives supported by the Province of British Columbia:

• Advancing a new museum or cultural centre for Canadians of South Asian heritages in B.C.
• Advancing a provincial Filipino cultural centre.
• $25 million in support of the JWest redevelopment.
• Establishing Canada’s first Chinese Canadian Museum in B.C.
• Continuing to support the Arts Infrastructure Program to help communities build new cultural spaces and renovate existing ones.
