Low income grant supplement for people with disabilities

Last updated on September 5, 2024

If your home owner grant is reduced or eliminated because your principal residence has a high assessed value, you may be eligible for the low income grant supplement for people with disabilities.

The low income grant supplement for people with disabilities is administered and dispersed by the Property Taxation Branch of the Ministry of Finance.

You must apply separately for the home owner grant and the low income grant supplement for people with disabilities. If you apply for the low income grant supplement with the Province and your principal residence is eligible to receive the full home owner grant, the low income grant supplement will be denied.

Do I qualify?

To qualify for the low income grant supplement for persons with disabilities you must:

If you have an adjusted net income between $30,000 and $32,000, you may receive half the supplement amount.

If you’re the spouse or relative of a deceased owner who would have qualified, you may be eligible for the supplement in the year of their death as long as you lived with them at the time of death and continue to live in the home.

Your supplement amount

Most low income people with disabilities who qualify and apply for the supplement receive a cheque for $845 ($1,045 in a northern and rural area). However, the amount of the supplement depends on your income and the assessed value of your home. The amount will not exceed what you would have received as a home owner grant if your home was assessed below the threshold.

Apply

You must apply for the home owner grant and the low income grant supplement separately.

To apply for the low income grant supplement complete the Home Owner Grant Low-Income Supplement Application (FIN 65) (PDF, 230KB) and submit it to us.

We must receive your low income grant supplement application by December 31 of the current tax year.

If you’re deferring your property taxes, still apply for a home owner grant, if eligible, and also apply for the low income grant supplement.

Retroactive low income supplement

The low income supplement may be available retroactively if you were eligible last year and did not apply.

You can apply for a retroactive supplement for only the previous tax year.

To apply for the previous year's supplement, complete and submit the Home Owner Grant Low-Income Supplement Application (FIN 65) (PDF, 230KB).

We must receive your retroactive low income grant supplement application and required documentation by December 31 of the current tax year.
