When your home owner grant is reduced or eliminated because your principal residence is assessed above the grant threshold, you may be eligible for the low income grant supplement for seniors.
The low income grant supplement for seniors is administered and dispersed by the Property Taxation Branch of the Ministry of Finance.
You must apply separately for the home owner grant and the low income grant supplement for seniors. If you apply for the low income grant supplement with the Province and your principal residence is eligible to receive the full home owner grant, the low income grant supplement application will be denied.
Find out:
To qualify for the low income grant supplement for seniors you must:
If you have an adjusted net income or adjusted household net income between $30,000 and $32,000, you may receive a reduced supplement amount.
If you’re the spouse or relative of a deceased owner who would have qualified, you may be eligible for the supplement in the year of their death as long as you lived with them at the time of death and continue to live in the home.
Most low income seniors who qualify and apply for the supplement receive a cheque for $845 ($1,045 in a northern and rural area).
The supplement amount is determined by two things:
The supplement amount will not exceed the amount you would have received if your principal residence qualified for the home owner grant.
