Prepare well

Watch this video to learn what to expect as a BC Public Service employee.

A welcome video from Shannon Salter, Head of the BC Public Service

The BC Public Service aims to be the place where ideas work.

That starts with the passion and dedication of the people who make up our organization.

After you've gotten the job

Accept the job offer

You will receive an official copy of your job offer by email. You will also get instructions on how to accept your offer by logging in to the Career Centre in the recruitment management system (RMS).

Submit information

Provide your birth date and social insurance number to your hiring manager and complete security screening (such as a criminal record check). Feel free to ask questions during this step.

Offer confirmation

An official confirmation letter will be sent to you once the job offer process is completed. We recommend that you do not quit your current job until you receive your confirmation.

Get to know your pension and benefits

Read over the Public Service Pension Plan Guide for Plan Members and learn more about your total compensation package.

Before your first day

Contact your supervisor

They can give you directions to the workplace, let you know what to bring and tell you what's scheduled for your first day. You can also let them know if you require any workplace accommodations. Find their contact information in your job offer letter.

Think about what you'll wear

Depending on where you work, the dress code is somewhere between business casual and business professional. Some employees have a uniform or clothing specific to their job.

Getting to work

Look up information about parking and public transit.

On your first day

When you arrive, someone from your team will show you around and help you get set up.
